In a nutshell:
If you want as gentle an introduction as possible to the world of Wii then this user-friendly compilation of mini-games is just the thing for you, with a collection of games that are as easy to play as they are fun.
The lowdown:
It might be easy to use but the Wii is still a pretty unusual beast and a bit of a culture shock from the overly complex controllers of other consoles. This compilation of mini-games aims to ease you in gently with simple to play games that only need the Wii Remote to enjoy. These include games of table tennis, air hockey (or Laser Hockey as the game would have it) and an updated of NES classic Duck Hunt. There's also Wii Billiards, a fishing sim and a number of games which use your customised Mii Channel character, including Wii Pose and the Where's Wally style Find Mii. Since many of these games have a multiplayer mode the game also comes bundled with an extra Remote (but not a nunchuck), which usually sells for £29.99 separately.
Most exciting moment:
Although all of the games are fun the best one is probably the Duck Hunt update (which also has you shooting UFOs and other non-avian enemies). Perhaps what's most exciting about it is that it proves how good other light gun franchises, such as Virtua Cop and Time Crisis would be on the Wii.
Since you ask:
Many of the mini-games included with Wii Play, such as Duck Hunt and Table Tennis, were first seen as technical demos at the E3 trade conference in May 2006, when the Wii was first revealed in playable form.
The bottom line:

Good for new owners
Some of the reviews this product has got have been unfair, this 'Game' if to help you learn to use the controller, by using games which require different movements.
And yes, it comes with a controller which is a great bonus and the main reason I bought it.
I'm already getting bored of the games it contains, but as a new owner of the Nintendo Wii, I found it helped an awful lot to get used to the system and the controller, particuarly for the sensitivity of the pointer, which at first I couldn't get used to at first.
A couple of games are just too boring, but a couple are very addicting and a couple are difficult enough to make you determined to keep playing until you beat it.
Great Game!!!!!
I think that this is a great game. You can do 2 player and play with everyone in your family. There are a variety of different games including shooting, table tennis, air hockey and fishing. I think anyone would enjoy it!
Oh Dear
Wii play is very disappointing, you'd think it was totally awesome, but really it isn't very good at all. The mini games are very basic, they are just copied from other games made on other platforms and they are all to easy and very childish and as I am 11, it doesn't satisfy me.
This game weared visibly...
This product in my view was inapropriet for my age group, however great value to the extreme! My "Mom" purchased this item for my wii, which I had during Christmas period. For the money it seemed a great deal (as it came with a free remote) But initially I think your basicly paying for the remote, not the Game! It's an excellent game for young ages, and people whom need guidence, there is a hint of fun within the game, but i warn you not to buy this game as a single. BUY IT WITH THE REMOTE! As the remote costs the same price.
Great
If you need another wii remote you should definitely get this product, it comes with a brand new remote and around 9 mini games, and its cheaper than buying a new remote on its own. I didn't think much of the games but i am 21 a child would like them more.
